About the Role
The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Language Podcast Navigator to join our team. This role involves creating, developing, and managing content for our language-focused podcast program. The ideal candidate is passionate about languages, possesses strong organizational and creative skills, and has experience in podcast production.

Reports to: Youth Coordinator
Position Details: Part-time (28 hours/week)

Qualifications and Requirements:

Human Services related field, language education communications, or related field.

Knowledge and an understanding of the Indigenous culture, particularly within the Treaty 8 area
-
Strong connection to the community and Elders
-
At minimum 2 years’ experience working with youth aged 12-26 years

Knowledge about the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre

Prior experience in podcast production, content creation, or language education

Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts for a diverse audience

Familiarity with audio editing software

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Creativity and innovation in developing engaging content for language learners

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Passion for languages, cultural diversity, and lifelong learning

Valid driver’s license

Ability to provide cleared criminal record and child intervention checks

Flexible schedule, and ability to work evenings and weekends
Responsibilities
-
Develop and design age-appropriate programs and activities for youth participants
-
Work with fluent Indigenous language speakers
-
Develop engaging and informative podcast episodes focused on various aspects of language learning, linguistics, cultural insights, and practical language usage

Conduct research on Indigenous languages within the area, prepare episodes, outlines, and scripts. Ensure accuracy, relevance, and educational value in the content

Identify, build relationships, and reach out to fluent language speakers. Coordinate interviews, schedules, provide necessary information, and ensure smooth communication with guests

Recording and production of podcast episodes

Language learning resources, create supplementary materials to accompany podcast episodes, such as vocabulary lists, study guides, exercises, or other recommended resources from Indigenous language guests

Distribution and promotion of podcast channel, including uploading episode to hosting platforms and scheduling releases

Audience engagement, encourage engagement with listeners through polls. Q&A sessions, or interactive segments

Collaborating and working closely with other GPFC programs and services
