Bus Driver (term position-school year)
Reports To: Aboriginal Head Start Program Assistant
Based at: 10105-97 Ave Grande Prairie, Alberta T8V-0N5
Job Purpose: To provide safe transportation for the program using the following responsibilities and accountabilities.
Qualifications:

Valid class 2 or 4 drivers’ license
-
Current drivers’ abstract
-
S Endorsement – class 2
-
Cleared Criminal Record and Child Intervention check
-
Valid First Aid
-
Strong organizational skills
-
Professionalism (conduct and dress)
-
Willingness and ability to work in a team environment and able to take direction
-
Must enjoy working with young children
-
Must be flexible and able to react in a calm and caring manner to unforeseen conflicts and situations that may arise
-
Childcare certification an asset
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities to Program Assistant
-
To report verbally on a daily basis to the Program Assistant
-
To immediately report and discuss any concerns with the Program Assistant
-
To immediately report any unusual incidents that may occur on the bus to the Program Assistant and document the same in the driver’s logbook
-
To submit a weekly inspection report which includes the gas consumption and cost, kilometers used per week, and children’s information
-
To bring any other concerns that may arise to the Program Assistant
-
Time off requests are to be submitted to the Program Assistant at minimum 2 weeks in advance
-
Will notify all parents the night before or by 7:00 am the morning before pickups, should the bus driver fall unexpectedly ill
Responsibilities to the Bus

Ensure the bus is maintained and in good working order
-
Inspections are completed during specifically scheduled times throughout the year
-
Maintain the cleanliness of the bus
-
To ensure a record of vehicle inspections are maintained and carried out as necessary
-
To install and maintain upkeep of all safety equipment; first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and cell phone as needed.

Obey all traffic safety laws
Responsibilities to the Families
-
To pick up and drop off children in a safe and secure manner
-
Ensure there is a scheduled pick up/drop off time
-
Treat all families/children with respect and patience
-
Schedule bus monitors and give parents ample time for scheduled dates
-
Orientate bus monitors at the beginning of the year
-
Pick up and drop off bus monitors
-
Transport families for special events
-
Ensure transportation consent forms are signed by the parents/guardians at pick up or drop off
-
Communicate with families as requested for program updates, as directed by office administration staff such as giving out information packages and documents
-
Give appropriate notice if the bus is canceled for the day due to weather, illness, program closures etc., so families can be notified before scheduled pick up times.

Close communication with all staff

Ensure safety during drop off and pick up

Be available for field trips as requested by classroom staff

Attend meetings and/or training as requested by the Program Coordinator
General Responsibilities
-
Ensure policies and procedures are followed at all times
-
Follow all new policies as they arise from time to time
-
Actively participate in program functions/events
-
Give directions to the Bus Monitor to ensure all children are being supervised properly
-
Maintain professional development through workshops, conferences, etc.
-
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality of all information related to the children, staff, parents, GPFC
-
Complete onboarding safety fitness training
